At this year’s 10th Annual Welcome Home Luncheon Sponsored by Biltmore, which took place on May 11, the Home is Key Capital Campaign officially went public! The Home is Key initiative will provide 85 housing units, along with wrap-around support services, for our community’s most chronically homeless. These 85 individuals and/or couples will live with individualized support for as long as they need it.

What impact can a Permanent Supportive Housing residence have on our community? The chronically homeless, a medically fragile population, imposes a high cost to the community due to overuse of public services such as crisis centers, hospital emergency departments, ambulances, and law enforcement. The annual operating cost of housing 85 individuals, along with supportive programming, is a little more than $1 million. Comparatively, the cost to our community for doing nothing for these 85 individuals ranges between $3 million and $4 million annually.

What supportive services will be provided to Home is Key is residents? Core services include on-site case management and 24/7 support staff to quickly respond to resident needs. Additional services provided by partner agencies will include behavioral health services, social and educational activities, job training, a medical clinic, and exercise classes.
