On June 30, 2021, Homeward Bound ended the COVID-19 emergency shelter contract at Red Roof Inn (RRI). From May of 2020 and all the way through June 2021, in partnership with the City of Asheville, Homeward Bound sheltered 166 individuals, 42 of which have been placed into permanent housing.

Those individuals who have yet to be housed continue to have access to case management and supportive services, and are being assisted in creating a plan for permanent housing success.

Undoubtedly, this sheltering initiative met the intended public health outcome – keeping our most vulnerable, unhoused neighbors safe during the pandemic.

Thank you to the various community partners, faith communities, volunteers, and advocates who assisted throughout this shelter initiative.
