This month, we're grateful to share the story of Brin, an Army veteran from Western North Carolina. Brin and her partner had previously experienced homelessness but were able to overcome it through hard work and perseverance. Unfortunately, after Hurricane Helene destroyed their home and vehicles, they were pushed into homelessness once again.

Thankfully, Brin reached out to Homeward Bound's Supportive Services for Veteran Families program after learning about our work from a helpful community member. Our team quickly stepped in to help Brin and her partner secure a new home, while also connecting them with health care, food support, and household supplies.

“Everything fell into place,” says Brin. “It moved so fast, it was amazing.”

With the stability of a home, Brin has been able to focus on her career and future. Four months after our initial interview, she shared this update:

“I continue to overcome the battles! I am now in the CWT (compensated work therapy program) at the VA hospital, working, and have applied for a full-time job! My hope when I step into full-time is to transition over to an IT position with the VA and maybe even the Department of Defense. Life continues to throw struggles, but I know through my faith and perseverance, we will overcome all of them.” 

On June 18th, Homeward Bound hosted a community resource fair at Compass Point Village, bringing together residents, service providers, and community partners to connect our clients with vital resources.

We also had face painting, cornhole, and a generous lunch provided by The Cathedral of All Souls.

Thank you to everyone who helped create a welcoming space where neighbors could build connections, access resources, and enjoy time together. Below are few highlights from the event!

Our Welcome Home Donation Center had a big month in June! Thanks to your support, our team helped 16 households move into safe, stable, and permanent housing.

Our Welcome Home Donation Center is in need of household items, furniture, and hygiene supplies. All donations will go straight into new homes for people who are exiting or avoiding homelessness. 

Temperatures are expected to exceed 100°F this month. You can help our housed and homeless community members stay cool in the heat by donating the following items!

Community members can drop off items at any time using our donation bins. You can also call or email our team to schedule a pickup.

We are excited to announce the relaunch of our REACH Fund. Founded in 2017, Real Estate Agents Combating Homelessness (REACH) is a partnership between Homeward Bound, real estate agents, brokers, and other industry professionals. 

Proceeds from the REACH Fund benefit Homeward Bound's Welcome Home Donation Center. The funds raised will support our Donation Center's operating costs, replenishing household supplies for move-ins, and Homeward Bound's moving truck.
