An elevated evening of connection, celebration and lasting change.

On September 3, 2026, Homeward Bound welcomed our community to the first-ever Golden Doors Gala, an evening dedicated to celebrating the people, partners, and supporters working to prevent and end homelessness in WNC.

Held at The Venue in downtown Asheville, the Gala brought together Homeward Bound supporters for an evening of connection, a three-course dinner, live entertainment, an auction, and an opportunity to invest in a community where everyone has a safe and stable place to call home.

Together, our community raised more than $283,000 to support Homeward Bound’s work.

These funds will help provide housing, outreach, case management, and other essential services for neighbors experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing their homes.

A Night That Made an Impact

The Golden Doors Gala was more than a fundraising event. It was an opportunity to come together around a shared belief: homelessness is a solvable problem.

Funds raised during the evening will support Homeward Bound programs including:

AHOPE Day Center and Outreach: Providing essential services and connecting people experiencing homelessness with housing and other resources.
Housing programs: Helping individuals and families move out of homelessness and into safe, stable, permanent homes.
Case management: Providing one-on-one support and connections to healthcare, food, mental health services, income opportunities, workforce development, and other resources that help people build stability.

About the Name

The name of the Gala was inspired by the door in Homeward Bound’s logo.

The open door and pathway are gold, symbolizing the light, warmth, and safety of a home. The image also represents what Homeward Bound works toward every day: opening new doors and pathways to safe, stable housing.

The first Golden Doors Gala brought that idea to life through an evening of community, generosity, and shared purpose.

Theatrical Performance: Between Here and Home

One of the evening’s most distinctive moments was Between Here and Home, a theatrical performance featuring three original monologues inspired by real experiences connected to homelessness.

To protect the privacy of the people we serve, local actors performed the pieces, which incorporated elements drawn from the experiences of Homeward Bound staff and the people they have encountered through their work.

The performances offered a glimpse into the everyday realities of homelessness while challenging the assumptions and stigma that often surround it.
